See You on Second!
February 12, 2024 / Downtown Nashville Blog
Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, downtown’s Second Avenue is known as the “birthplace” of Nashville, having served as the commercial heart and soul of the city. Though Second Avenue has continued to thrive as a corridor popular with locals and visitors alike, the area has faced unprecedented challenges - from the devastating impact of natural disasters to the global pandemic and the heartbreaking Christmas Day bombing in 2020.
Today, a stroll down Second (2nd Ave N between Broadway and Union St) looks substantially different from any other time in history: the city is working to rebuild and re-envision the avenue. Don’t be fooled by the construction fencing and scaffolding as you turn the corner from Broadway – the avenue is OPEN FOR BUSINESS! With 70% of Second Avenue’s retailers being locally owned, this is where you’ll get a true taste of Nashville!
So head down Second for a cold pint and killer burger, a sprinkled cone, or a pair of cowboy boots. You’re sure to discover something new while you play an important part of preserving this vibrant street, so it remains a testament to “the Nashville Way” through the construction period and for generations to come.
