Details
Join us for this Nashville Opera performance based on Pam Muñoz Ryan‘s picture book titled When Marian Sang. This program of spirituals and well-known songs introduces new audiences to the legendary Marian Anderson, the first Black artist to sing a principal role at New York‘s Metropolitan Opera.
The program will be narrated by Vinéecia Buchanan, adjunct faculty member of Vanderbilt University‘s Blair School of Music. Soprano Alysha Nesbitt, alumn of Tennessee State University and both Nashville Opera‘s HBCU Fellowship and Mary Ragland Emerging Artist program, sings the role of Marian Anderson.
This performance is a proud partnership between the Frist Art Museum, Nashville Opera, and Vanderbilt‘s Curb Center for Art, Enterprise, and Public Policy. It is presented in conjunction with Southern/Modern and is part of our Family Sunday program.
