The Acoustic Guitar Project—which is active in forty-two cities and has involved almost four hundred songwriters—inspires musicians to write an original song and record it live in one week. The songs can be heard on TheAcousticGuitarProject.com, but during this program, the songwriters who recently participated in the project in Nashville will share the songs they wrote. Ryan Brisotti is a co-writer on Raleigh Keegan’s new song “New to Nashville,” and his compositions have been finalists in multiple Nashville Songwriters Association International song contests. Mason Lee attended Berklee College of Music and released his own EP in 2016. He also serves as tutor for the Museum’s songwriting camp students. Josey Omokheyeke was 2016’s The Fame Chicago talent competition winner. She has performed at the Chicago Theatre, Nashville’s Exit/In, and House of Blues, and has been featured in Nashville’s weekly Song Suffragettes acoustic showcase, which spotlights up-and-coming female artists. Kate Sykes was able to complete her Berklee College of Music degree remotely so she could immerse herself in the Nashville music scene. In addition to writing songs for other artists, she plans to release her own new music this year. Lipscomb Academy high school student Abby Whitman placed second in her school’s 2020 song contest with her composition “Happy Thanksgiving Day,” and has participated in the Museum’s student songwriting camp and workshops.
