THIS IS AN ONLINE EVENT.

Drawing from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s exhibit galleries and extensive collection of stage costumes and archival materials, Suiting the Sound: The Rodeo Tailors Who Made Country Stars Shine Brighter was curated exclusively for online audiences and is free to access here. The exhibit examines the dazzling artistry of Western-wear designers whose couture fashions helped create an indelible image for country music and inspired fashion far beyond the stages of barn dances and honky-tonks. Produced and presented in partnership with the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, this conversation explores the emergence of this unique “rhinestone cowboy” look in the 1940s and 1950s, largely from the tailor shops of Eastern European Jewish immigrants Bernard “Rodeo Ben” Lichtenstein, Nathan Turk, and Nudie Cohn. The discussion will be led by Mick Buck, curatorial director at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and Josh Perelman, Ph.D., chief curator and director of exhibitions and interpretation at the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History. Ray Benson, founding member of the Grammy-award winning Western swing group Asleep at the Wheel, will also join the conversation.

Stream on-demand on the Museum’s YouTube channel, Facebook page, and website starting with the premiere on Tuesday, February 15, at 7:00 p.m. central.
