Nashville Opera will present a new performance at the Tennessee State Museum called “When Marian Sang.” This program combines the text of Pam Muñoz Ryan’s book, "When Marian Sang: The True Recital of Marian Anderson," with traditional spirituals, popular songs, and opera arias to bring Anderson’s story to life for an entirely new generation. Marian Anderson was the first Black opera singer to sing a principal role at the Metropolitan Opera in 1955. During the program, some of Nashville’s best classically trained Black singers will bring her music to life as the book is narrated.
