Paul Vasterling’s nationally acclaimed Lucy Negro Redux returns to the stage after debuting in 2019 with three sold out performances. This groundbreaking work explores the mysterious love life of literary great William Shakespeare through the perspective of the illustrious “Dark Lady” for whom many of his famed sonnets were written. Based on the book and narrated live by Nashville poet Caroline Randall Williams, the contemporary ballet explores themes of love, otherness, equality, and beauty on an imaginative journey brimming with wit and relevancy. Hailed “an amalgamation of Shakespearean-era Renaissance..banjos, blues, and work songs,” Lucy Negro Redux features an original score by GRAMMY Award-winning artist and MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient Rhiannon Giddens.
