Open to all educators: This workshop is particularly well suited for 9th-12th grade teachers, but participants from all grades and subject areas are welcomed.

During this workshop, educators will:

  • Engage in a guided tour of María Magdalena Campos-Pons: Behold.
  • Learn about María Magdalena Campos-Pons’s multimedia, sensorial artworks which are informed by her layered identity as a Cuban woman with ancestral roots in the Yoruba culture of West Africa, Spain, and China. Her artwork explores the history of diaspora, displacement, and migration, as well as labor and race, and motherhood and spirituality.
  • Participate in conversations and cross-curricular dialogue.
  • Take part in an art-making activity inspired by the exhibition.
  • Learn about some of the historical and cultural contexts of María Magdalena Campos-Pons’s work during a presentation led by Dr. Jesús Ruiz, Assistant Professor of the Practice in Caribbean Studies from CLACX at Vanderbilt University.

Price: $30 members; $35 not-yet-members (all materials, museum admission, parking validation, continental breakfast, and lunch included)
